The Sadie Grice Funny Scholarship Foundation

The late Sadie Grice Funny transitioned her earthly presence on August 15, 1999. Always mindful of his mother’s commitment to education, personal sacrifices, and determined will to succeed, her youngest son, John J. Funny, established the Sadie Grice Funny scholarship in her honor in 2002. With a singularly-dedicated mission focused on providing assistance for educational opportunities in this current economic climate of cutbacks and cutouts, John’s vision has encompassed the essence of Sadie Grice Funny.  Following the example of his mother’s entrepreneurial spirit, John, the Founder, President and CEO of Grice Consulting Group LLC, an Atlanta based city/urban/transportation planning, traffic/transportation engineering and water infrastructure engineering firm, states “My mother was such an inspiration to me and all of my brothers and sisters. As I watched her while growing up, I realized that the things she accomplished were beyond the typical and out of the norm. She was a model of what was good and right for me and this scholarship, as noble as its intent, pales in comparison to what a great woman she was and the motivating force she continues to be...”.

Today, The Sadie Grice Funny Scholarship Foundation celebrates her zest for life, commemorates her value of education, and immortalizes her contribution to the community for the success of future generations. Through academic funding, The Sadie Grice Funny Scholarship Foundation provides a financial resource to further eligible students’ pursuit of their educational objectives. Since its establishment 18 years ago, the Sadie Grice Funny Scholarship Foundation has bestowed more than $250,000 in scholarships to promising students. Students receiving the  SGFSF scholarship in previous years have been accepted for enrollment or completed studies in some of the best institutions of higher education in the country including:
